Ikigai literally means "finding the purpose of your life."
This book describes the lifestyle and other aspects of the people of Okinawa (Japan), also known as the village of longevity, 80 percent secret, microflow: enjoying mundane tasks, communal life, miracle diet, logotherapy, choosing difficult tasks but not too difficult, sophisticated simplicity, etc.
I will not say much of it now because, whatever I will say, it will sound like free, boring advice until you have read this book. Of course, I would have also felt the same!! Because we tend to learn from examples.
But to keep it concise, I am mentioning here the 10 rules that are listed at the end of this book. They're:
1. stay active, don't retire.
2. take it slow.
3. don't fill your stomach.
4. surround yourself with good friends
5. get in shape for your next birthday
6. smile
7. reconnect with nature
8. give thanks
9. live in the moment
10. follow your IKIGAI
However, different people would analyse these 10 rules differently, but when they read through, they will get to know the actual depth and literal meaning of all of these and many more.
If someone said to describe this book in one word, I would say "MEDITATION". Apart from some tongue twisters and a few boredoms here and there, one will experience many "NOW" moments while reading.
Hence, this engaging Ikigai is good for "your Ikigai" and also makes one familiar with the culture of Japan and life processes as a whole. Most importantly, it does not give void advice rather moves us with live examples.
So you should definitely give it a read.
